Using Flutter-Type Jigs Profile in Slow Current Jigging to your Advantage!
During jigging in at the open ocean there are many conditions that we might face, which one of the top concerns are on the speed of the current. As we know, fast current speed are more desirable than the low current as far as fish activity is concerned.
The current speed does have a direct correlation with the fish activity or feeding rate. The higher the activity is, the more chance for us to get the bite. However, In this round, I will not go deep on the current speed (Moon activity) but more on the application of flutter Jig Profile during slow current.
What is flutter Jig in Kurodai?
In Kurodai, flutter is a profile which consist of wide body and flat surfaces. Some may call it a leaf type jigs. For a flutter jig to yield a flutters action, it has to be center weighted, where the center of gravity is focused at the center part of the body. Such balanced will allow the jig to spin in horizontal mimicking the fall of a leaf from a tree (easiest analogy that I could find)
What are the key features?
Key features of flutter jigs are;
The most aggressive action jig profile who exert highest vibrations amongst others. This is made possible due to the wide body that it has where it created high water resistance during the fall in the water.
Fluttery action is known to mimicking falling dead fish in the water as result of predatory fish attack that commonly happen at the top of water column. Adding on to this, slow fluttery fall and jerk does also mimic squids or small octopus swimming and escaping.
How do we use it to Advantage in Slow Current?
During Slow current, when most often than not the predatory fish known to be more passive. The effective strategy is to maneuver the jigs on a slower motion and tempo.
As if we are lazier than the prey fish.
On sea ecosystem part, at slow current scenario, small fishes are tend not be hiding in their reefs, resulting of excessive disturbances throughout the water column (there are many preys exist). In order to excite the predators, the jig presentation shall be the most vulnerable amongst all.
To demonstrate such action, long fall technic is highly recommended, the trick is to lift the rod slowly and release the line freely in a gentle motion and at the slower tempo.
Let the jig do their trick for you!
Thanks All!
